About Prairiewood Leisure Centre
Prairiewood Leisure Centre is a recreational facility featuring a large gymnasium, a heated 25-metre indoor pool and a 50-metre outdoor pool. It is also the home of Aquatopia.
Every Trade’s project specifically involves Aquatopia, a water park with a huge range of attractions for people of all ages.
Aquatopia welcomes visitors from the beginning of the September school holidays through to the conclusion of the April school holidays, offering a variety of attractions, including giant slides, an adventure tower, a toddlers’ pool, a Wave Rider bodyboard simulator, a colossal 55-metre wave pool and much more. It’s an ideal destination for spending quality time with family or friends, often serving as a venue for birthday parties and various events.
Project details
Every Trade submitted a tender for the Prairiewood Leisure Centre project, incorporating exciting architectural designs provided by the council. This project was construct only, and focused on the Aquatopia Water Park. It encompassed enhancements to the entrance and parking facilities, the installation of a ticket booth, the creation of a shaded area and the development of a concourse for visitors to wait, whether for ticket purchase or group rendezvous.
Previously, Aquatopia had an old dirt car park and a sloped embankment with a ramp. Upon completion of the project, it will boast a modern bitumen parking area, complete with stormwater and designated disabled parking spaces, all conveniently situated on the same level as the ticketing area.
We have elevated the entire area by approximately one metre to align it with the water park, establishing a smooth transition from the car park to the park entry and significantly improving accessibility.
Highlights and challenges
As summer approaches and spring holidays draw near, Every Trade has diligently worked to meet a tight timeframe for project handover. Although the project is still in construction, it is approaching completion, and the Prairiewood Leisure Centre and Aquatopia teams are pleased with the current results.
During the project, we encountered several challenges that necessitated engineering redesign, consuming valuable time and placing our team in a position of playing catch-up.
However, despite deviating from the original plan, our team demonstrated adaptability and determination, ensuring we were back on track to complete the project on schedule.
